What is the HMIS Basic Training Video Series? 

The HMIS Basic Training Video Series is a series of online training videos for service providers in Calgary’s Homeless-Serving System of Care responsible for entering data into HMIS ServicePoint.

 

The goal of HMIS Basic Training is to foster excellent data quality by providing each user with the knowledge and confidence to enter data consistently and accurately in HMIS ServicePoint. The previous in-person training has moved online to provide flexibility for viewers and runs a total of 3.5 hours.


How can I access and complete the HMIS Basic Training Video Series?

Registration for the HMIS Basic Training is available through the CHF website here


Once you complete and submit the registration form, you will receive an email from the HMIS Support Team with a confirmation of your enrollment, instructions to access the video series, and log-in credentials for the HMIS ServicePoint Training Site. 


There is no time limit to complete HMIS Basic Training.  


Upon completion, participants must submit a signed HMIS User Agreement within 90 days, at which point a member of the HMIS Team will review the quiz and data entry.  Access to the ServicePoint Live Site will be granted once the HMIS team validates completion of training.

If I participated in Basic Training already, do I have to participate again?  

Any users who have attended HMIS Basic Training (provided by the HMIS Support Team) will not need to re-attend. 

 

If you have completed HMIS Basic Training and are relocating to a new agency, simply send the HMIS Team a new completed HMIS User Agreement at hmis@calgaryhomeless.com.  


If I participated in Housing Strategist training already, do I have to participate in additional HMIS training?  


Housing Strategists who complete Housing Strategist training will only have CAA access in HMIS. If users require EDA to other programs in HMIS, they must also complete the HMIS Training related to their program type. 


Can we still access group training?

Yes - to discuss/schedule Group Training Sessions, including Refresher Training for you or your team, please contact the HMIS Support Team at hmis@calgaryhomeless.com. 

 

HMIS Basic Training is intended for individuals, and each individual must register to participate i and submit their own quiz to the HMIS Support Team to complete the training.


Who can access the training resources?

Priority will be given to agency/program staff who require access to HMIS ServicePoint. Students and job seekers are welcome to register but may be required to attend the training again once hired.


What are the prerequisites for HMIS User Training? 

Before registering for the HMIS Basic Training Video Series, you must first complete the online FOIP training provided by the Government of Alberta, found here:  http://www.servicealberta.ca/foip/training/online-training.cfm  

 

You will be asked to submit the FOIP Certificate of Completion with your completed HMIS User Agreement when requesting access to the ServicePoint Live site.  


How can I cancel my registration for the HMIS Basic Training Video Series?

Please email hmis@calgaryhomeless.com as soon as you are aware. 


What resources are required to access the User Training Session?

The videos are hosted online and require a computer, speakers, and internet access.


How do I access the HMIS ServicePoint LIVE Site upon training completion?

Once your quiz has been reviewed and support provided if needed, an HMIS Support Specialist will send a post-training email to you with the following: 

  • Live Site Log In Credentials 
  • Links to HMIS Support Documentation 
  • Link to the post-training survey
